BASCIANO, Anthony Joseph (Tony),
passed away quietly with loved ones by his side on Wednesday, April 16th, 2008 at St. Joseph's Palliative Care Unit at age 86. Tony leaves behind his devoted wife Patricia (Beresford) and his children Angela, Anthony, Gina (husband Doug Martin), Nicole (husband Dave Cooke) and step-children Warren Chambers (partner Valerie Evans) and Karen Schweier. He was a loving Grandpa to grandchildren Dana Basciano, Anthony Basciano Jr., Madison Cook (husband Chad), Nikki Schweier, Paul & Hannah Chambers, Ashley & Victoria Martin, and Sarah, Charlotte & Bridget Cooke. Proud Poppa to great-grandchildren Owen, Christopher & Veronica. He will be missed by his brothers Eric & Andrew (wife Teresa), sister-in-law Hellen Basciano-Holland, brothers-in-law Vince Beresford (wife Anne), Lawrence Beresford, Gerald Beresford (wife Lauza), and many nieces & nephews. Tony is predeceased by his parents Michele & Angela Basciano (Marrocco), and his brothers Ernest & Michele. Tony served in WWII as a Sergeant in the Hastings & Prince Edward Regiment and was a life-long member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 52, serving one term as Branch President. He was also the District and Zone Parade Marshall and could often be found at the head of parades, both large and small. He was a successful barber and businessman and was actively involved in the community all of his life. His family would like to thank the wonderful staff in the PRHC Palliative Care Unit, especially Dr. Gillis-Doyle, nurses Katy, Tammy, Sandra, Darlene, Sherry & Kim, and Judy from Social Work. He will be missed by many.
Visitation at DUFFUS FUNERAL HOME, 431 George Street South from 2-4 p.m. only on Saturday and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday. (Royal Canadian Legion Service 1:45 p.m. Saturday. Parish Prayers 1:45 p.m. Sunday) Funeral Mass in the Cathedral of St. Peter-in-Chains on Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10 a.m. Reverend Damian Smullen officiating. Interment St. Peter's Cemetery. In Tony's memory, donations to the PRHC Palliative Care Unit or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.
