MOORHOUSE, Kathleen Beryl (née Ward) May 26, 1926 – March 6, 2012
Mum passed away, peacefully, after recently being diagnosed with cancer. She is mourned by daughters Anne and Gwen, son-in-law Harry Maloney and grandchildren Margaret (Pat Thornton), Peter and Elizabeth. Beryl was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Moorhouse who passed away on February 2, 1983.
Beryl was born in Colwyn Bay, Wales to Martin and Cathleen Ward. At age 11, the family moved to Huddersfield, Yorkshire. Beryl's memories of the war years were full of dances with soldiers. At one of these dances she met Kenneth Moorhouse. They were married three years later in 1947. In 1956, Kenneth decided to seek a better future for the family. He sailed to Canada in September, finding work in Peterborough. Beryl and the girls followed in December 1956, landing at Pier 21, Halifax.
Mum and Dad made a great life for their family in Peterborough. Always a hard worker, Mum found sales jobs in a number of downtown store including Sandy's, Woolworth's (candy girl), and Alan B. Collis. After Kenneth's death she devoted herself to her family and activities such as five-pin bowling, carpet bowling and darts where she made many friends. Beryl was an avid reader and listener to CBC radio. She also enjoyed fashion and was elegant to the end. For her eightieth birthday, Beryl returned to England for a last visit with family and friends, touring England and Wales. The following year, another life-long wish was fulfilled when she visited Rome and the Vatican while on a Mediterranean cruise.
She had one sister, Pat (deceased) who married Donald Rowbottom (deceased). She was a devoted sister-in-law to her family in England: Molly (Jack Firth, deceased), Peggy and Leonard Watson (both deceased), and Peter and Barbara Moorhouse. She is also mourned by nieces and nephews Douglas and Alan (Val) Rowbottom, Stephen (Tina) and Alison (Tony) Moorhouse, Lucy and Sophie (Shane) Firth. She is also deeply missed by her cousin Kathleen (Ken) Glancy and their family in Leeds, UK.

"Sleep my love, and peace attend thee
All through the night,
Guardian angels God will lend thee,
All through the night,
Soft the drowsy hours are creeping,
Hill and vale in slumber sleeping,
I my loving vigil keeping,
All through the night"
