BUCKLEY, Catherine Corinne

Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's at Fleming, on Saturday, May 28, 2022 in her 94th year. Corinne was predeceased by Don, her loving husband of seventy-two years. She was the daughter of Jeannie Shepherd and Robert Martin, both of whom came to Canada from Scotland. Corinne was devoted to her family, Donna (the late Ross), Dale (Yvonne), Scott (Maureen) and Michel. She will be missed by her grandchildren Jeffrey (Lauren), Laura, Shannon (William) and Clare (Stephen), her great-grandchildren Carson and Devon and her sister-in-law, Deenie Martin. Corinne was predeceased by her brother, Robert Martin. Corinne met Don, the love of her life, at a YMCA dance in 1946. They bought their first home in Scarborough in 1953, where they raised their three children. In 1991, they moved to Peterborough where they purchased their second home and spent thirty happy years there. Corinne loved dogs and many neighbourhood pooches would drop by for a friendly pat and a treat. One day a guinea pig dropped by for a cuddle. She spent many enjoyable summer hours on her swing in the garage. Corinne was close to her neighbours and their children. As the children grew up, Corinne continued to show interest in their lives. She was a very kind and generous person. She would always buy a raffle ticket or help out a charity with a donation. She was a member of the Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation and recently had a name plaque with her name, displayed on the wall of the hospital, as a contributor. She also donated to the Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto. Corinne loved her teddy bears. Over the years, with the help of family and friends she began to collect her bears, naming all of them. She also had a vast music collection. She loved listening to Rita McNeil, Roger Whittaker and Anne Murray. When those artists came to Peterborough, Corinne attended their concerts. She also enjoyed the music of James Last and Lawrence Welk. Corinne had a fondness for military bands. Hearing the skirl of the bagpipes brought her joy. As a young girl, Corinne was a Scottish sword dancer. She won medals in dancing competitions. Corinne enjoyed watching her Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays on television and she did attend some of the baseball games. She was supportive of her children's sports activities and attended most hockey practices and games. Corinne's favourite flower was the rose, wth lilacs being a close second. Her favourite colour was blue. Corinne made the best potato salad and shortbread cookies. She had a fondness for chocolate chip cookies, ice cream and any form of chocolate. Corinne knitted beautiful afghan blankets, sweaters and baby outfits. Her favourite television show was "Everbody Loves Raymond". Corinne and Don enjoyed travelling. They visited Hawaii, Curacao, Dominican Republic and Florida. She travelled to British Columbia and the Maritimes. Happy memories were made at rental cottages on Georgian Bay. Both Don and Corinne liked the long drives in the country around Peterborough "to see the views". Over the years, Corinne faced serious health issues. These she battled with bravery and resilience. Above all else, Corinne loved her family. She will be sorely missed by all she knew but the memories of her are still vivid and will keep her with us forever. The family extends much gratitude to the staff of St. Joseph's at Fleming and Peterborough Regional Health Centre who cared for Corinne. Also warm thanks to Dr. Richard Ahee who was Corinne's family physician for thirty years. Thanks are also extended to Bonnie and Anna. We are much appreciative of the dedicated people who have given care and friendship to Corinne at home – Jo, Ken, Marta, William, Kathryn and Nathan. Also thanks to the neighbours, the Hills, Vanderveen's, Purves', Fongs and Abrahams and to Donrey McIntosh who, over the years, never missed recognizing Corinne's birthday or anniversary. Thanks to Peter Duffus and his staff for caring for Corinne and the family at this time. Corinne was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. It is comforting to know she is now at peace.
