Peacefully in her 95th year at Stillwater Creek Residence, Nepean ON, surrounded by her loving children. Daughter of Mabel and James Kelly Sheehy of Peterborough and sister of Adele (John Armstrong) and Merrell (Bill Morrissey). Predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Eugene John; brothers Jim, Fergus and Bill Sheehy and sister Marnie Hayes. Survived by her ever grateful children, John (Rosalie Spargo), Rosemary (John Redfern) and Richard (Janet Heffernan) as she was instrumental in our lives as a special mother, role model and friend. Grandchildren Adam, Kyle, Carla (Andy Boutwell) and Ryan (Kendra Hobbs) will miss their wonderful Grammy, who was their number one cheerleader and original golf instructor. We all felt lucky that she passed on her love of golf and her proficiency of the game to two generations. Grammy was also so very fond of her great grandchildren Lucy Donovan and Nora and Nolan Boutwell who had a special way of lighting up her life every time they visited. Eleanor had a special place in her heart for her many nieces and nephews and was fondly regarded by them as the last member of the Sheedy family. Eleanor grew up in Peterborough where she made a tremendous impact for her many years of volunteer service for the St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary and many other charities. She was the originator of the Teddy Bear picnic and worked tirelessly on many gala events that raised much needed funding, including Peterborough's first Mammogram Imaging machine. For her efforts, Eleanor was honoured as a Peterborough "Volunteer of the Year". Eleanor was also recently honoured by the St. Peter's Catholic Women's league, at a special ceremony, for her 60 years of service. Outside of her family, Eleanor's great passions were golf, curling and bridge. Having joined the Peterborough Golf and Country Club in 1947, she was a life time member, and will be remembered as a great player, competitor, organizer and Director of Entertainment, but most importantly, for her promotion of Junior Girls Golf. Eleanor took her interest in mentoring Junior Girl golfers from the club level to being Canadian Captain of the International Junior Girls Team at Pebble Beach in 1979. Her leadership at the provincial and national levels spanned over 15 years. To this day, many women attribute their love of golf and fondly remember their mentor, Mrs. Sheedy. Eleanor and Gene moved from Peterborough to Nepean in 2006 where they made wonderful new friends over the bridge table and attending numerous events at Stillwater Residence. Special thanks to Janet Sheedy for her attentiveness, dedication and loving care to her Mother-in-law. Thank you to the caring staff at Stillwater, in particular the PSW's who caringly attended to her on a daily basis.

Visitors will be received at the DUFFUS FUNERAL HOME, 431 George Street South Peterborough from 6 - 8 p.m. on Thursday September 28th. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Andrew Begin at the CATHEDRAL OF ST. PETER-IN-CHAINS , 310 Hunter Street West, Peterborough on Friday September 29th at 10:30 a.m. A private family interment will be held at a later date at Mount Hope Cemetery, Toronto where she will be reunited with Gene.
