SHEEDY, Eugene John (Oct. 4, 1917 to Oct. 6, 2010)

Peacefully in his 94th year at Stillwater Creek Residence, surrounded by his loving wife and children. Son of Matthew and Florence Sheedy of Toronto and pre-deceased by sisters Catherine Sheedy and Eileen Fox and brothers Fr. Matthew Sheedy, Wilton, Frank and Bernard Sheedy. Survived by his beloved wife Eleanor (Sheehy) of 62 years, devoted children John (Donna Tripp) of Calgary, Rosemary (John Redfern) of Oakville, Richard (Janet Heffernan) of Kanata. Proud grandfather of Adam, Kyle, Carla and Ryan who will miss him greatly and fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Gene grew up in Toronto, served as a naval officer in the Royal Canadian Navy and moved to Peterborough, Ontario in 1946 where he and his brother Frank owned and operated the American House for 30 years. In his leisure time Gene could be found at the Peterborough Golf and Country Club, where he was a life member, or boating on the Kawartha Lakes. Moved to Nepean, Ontario in 2006 and made wonderful new friends with the residents of Stillwater Creek. Gene will be remembered for his sense of humour, integrity and as a tremendous role model for his children and grandchildren.

Visitors will be received at the DUFFUS FUNERAL HOME, 431 George St. S. Peterborough from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, October 8th. (Parish Prayers 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.) Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Monsignor John Pearson, at St. Peter's Cathedral, 310 Hunter St. W. Peterborough, on Saturday, October 9th at 10:15 a.m., followed by a reception at the Peterborough Golf and Country Club, 1030 Armour Road, Peterborough. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date at Stillwater Creek Residence in Nepean. Private Family Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery, Toronto at a later date. The family wishes to especially thank Dr. Tareen and the very caring and dedicated staff at Stillwater Creek for their exemplary care, kindness and support for Gene, as well as the family.
