BROWN, Fred


Peacefully at the home of his son on November 21, 2011. Fred Brown in his 96th year of Armour Road and Island home in Hastings. An avid bowler and member of the Scott's Plains Kiwanis Club. Beloved husband of the late Margaret (McGuire). Always the most loving and caring father of the late Joan (Penford) and husband Garry, Bob and his wife Gail of Peterborough. A very proud grandpa of Kelly Penfold/Scully (Adrian), Don Penfold, Jon Brown (Jennifer) and Katie Brown. A great grandpapa to his special little treasures, Emily, Aiden, Hailey and Kaylee. Fred and Margaret always put their friends and family first with gracious hospitality and generosity. Fred spent all his working life at Colgate Palmolive in Toronto starting as a mail boy and working his way up to manager of purchasing. A job he truly enjoyed for 47 years. Predeceased by his father George in WWI, mother Ada Jane and brothers and sisters Maggie, John, Tom, Ann and Vina. All the residents at Auburn Village Gardens and members of the Kiwanis, especially Andy and Dorothy made dad's life after Margaret's death a full and happy one. Fred's final months would not have been so pleasant if not for the love, care and compassion of his granddaughter Katie.

Friends will be welcomed at DUFFUS FUNERAL HOME, 431 George Street South for a Visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, November 24, 2011 followed by a Funeral Service in the DUFFUS CHAPEL on Thursday, November 24, 2011 at 1 p.m.. A graveside service will be held in Toronto (Mount Pleasant Cemetery) on Friday, November 25, 2011 at 12 noon.
