Obituary

LYNCH, Harry (Henry Francis)

After a long and happy life, Harry slipped away peacefully in his 95th year on Friday, July 21, 2017. Harry was the much-loved father of Margaret Williams (Bert) of Orleans, Ontario, and Mary Lynch-Taylor (Merritt Taylor) of Curve Lake, Ontario. Cherished grandfather of Maureen, Orleans; Greg (Saima), Ottawa; Emma (Lionel), Curve Lake; and Dylan (Emily), Kanata. Treasured great-grandfather of Dominique (Sabastian) and Nicole, and Damien and Jordan. Delighted great-great-grandfather of Phoebe. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Hilda Walsh, Lakefield, many nieces and nephews, and their children including his wonderful great-niece, Sarah McInnis, whose visits with her fiddle were a highlight in his last years. Harry was predeceased by his wife, partner and fierce euchre rival, Agnes (Heffernan) in 1999, parents Martin Lynch and Margaret (Kennelly), and ten extraordinary brothers and sisters: Tim, Lorne, Lila (Foran), Father John, Sister Mary Perpetua (Irene), Sister Martina (Veronica), Marguerite (English), Pat, Jim, and Howard, as well as Heffernan family in-laws. Harry was a man for whom family, faith, fun and fiddle music meant everything.  He left Mount St. Patrick in 1942, and enjoyed a career as a draftsman for almost forty years at Canadian General Electric in Peterborough.  The family appreciates the kindness of many people in Harry's last years of life when he was less able to manage independently. Specifically, the late Deacon Gerry McMurray who visited Dad often at Rubidge Retirement Residence with a Tim's in one hand and time to chat on the other; workers at Rubidge during the four-and-a-half years he lived there; staff on B-3, PRHC during his four month stay in 2015, the kind, warm and caring people who work at Pleasant Meadow Manor in Norwood, and Father John Albao and Eucharistic Ministers from St. Paul's Church, Norwood.

Visitation will occur at DUFFUS FUNERAL HOME , 431 George Street South, Peterborough from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2017. (Parish Prayers 3:30 p.m. Tuesday). Funeral Mass at the CATHEDRAL OF ST. PETER-IN-CHAINS, Peterborough at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2017.  Interment to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.duffusfuneralhome.com .  In memory of Harry, please smile at someone you do not know, and say "Hello", or, better yet, "Good day".
