Entered into the presence of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at the age of 90 at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Peterborough. Beloved wife of the late Blair Houghton (March 30, 2020). Loving mother of Katherine (Kay Anne) Houghton of Peterborough, Sherrilyn and husband Dale Harman of North Rustico, PEI, and Robert Houghton and wife Colleen of Ottawa. Grandma to Jennifer Saunderson (Andrew), James Harman (Jessica) and Joshua Harman. Nana to Janna Houghton and Robbie Houghton. Great-grandma to Joshua Harman and Zoe Harman. Dear sister of Kathy Gertz, Morley McNeil, Ivan McNeil, Helen Douglass, Joyce Marshall, and Brian McNeil.
Dear sister-in-law of Sandra Houghton of Burlington. Predeceased by her parents James McNeil and Hilda Rowlandson, and her brother, Jim McNeil.
Jean loved her Lord, her family, and her church. She was a storyteller, entertaining everyone with stories of school and family history. Her motto was "Never ruin a good story with the facts." She loved quilting, painting, needle work, outdoor summer and winter activities and making music. She loved to laugh.
Jean began her teaching career in a one-roomed schoolhouse at age 18 and she retired 40 years later. She worked her whole career in Northern Ontario. During her years of teaching she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Laurentian University.
Visitation will be held at CALVARY PENTECOSTAL CHURCH, 1421 Lansdowne Street West from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2024 followed by a A Celebration of Jean's Life at 1 p.m. Reception will follow at the church. In memory of Jean, donations to Calvary Pentecostal Church, Peterborough or a children's charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
