With a grateful heart and surrounded by love, Joan Pauline Caravaggie (Scollard) passed away peacefully and comfortably at home on October 26, 2022, in her 103 ^rd year.

Joan now joins the love of her life Frederick and ever-missed daughter Margaret. She will be remembered by beloved children Donna Caravaggie (Reg Lang, deceased), Mary Waters, Jane and husband Walter Urban, and Joseph Caravaggie, and her adoring grandchildren Natalie Waters and husband Blair Kingsbury, Amy Waters and husband Stephen Ramsbotham, Jeannette Fought and husband Patrick, Rebecca Schmid and husband Luke, and Jennifer Urban. Proud great-grandmother of Katie, Maddy, Emily, Doug, Dane, Andrew, Kendall, Myles, and Mason, special "GG" of Joely and Nico. Survived by loving sisters-in-law Rita Clarke and Marg Heath. Aunt, great-aunt, friend, and cherished connection to the past to many others. Predeceased by parents William and Catherine (Harrington) Scollard, siblings Jim (Norah), Bernadine (Joseph Thomas), Mary (Bid Denault), Bill (Geraldine), Agnes (Clare McGillen), Eleanor (Peter Ayotte), Clare (Bunny), Nan (Ed Bedding), Gordon, and Paul, her extended Caravaggie family, and all her loved ones gone before.

Joan had a long and rich life, filled with accomplishments, happiness, and challenges. She witnessed tremendous technological, scientific, political, and societal change, navigating it all with an open and accepting mind, her strength of faith and sense of community. The knowledge, perspectives, and stories she shared over the years will forever be treasured gifts. Joan enjoyed every day, keeping her mind sharp with news, books, puzzles, and by watching the Blue Jays. She delighted in her family and was never more content than when she had everyone around for dinners, happy hours, and countless Euchre games – especially if she won (or trumped an Ace). Although something fundamental about our world has shifted, and the anchoring presence in our lives is physically gone, we will do our best to follow her parting reminders: To be good and kind, to help those in need, and to have fun.

Joan and family would like to thank all those who helped navigate this time with respect, empathy, and dignity, including Dr. R. de Luna, Dr. C. Matheson, Father Leo Coughlin for his visits, and every hero involved with the home palliative care team at Hospice Peterborough, particularly Emmanuel and his colleagues. What you do, and the compassion with which you do it, is appreciated more than we can articulate.

Joan's life will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 1. Family and friends who wish to take part in a visitation are welcome from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Duffus Funeral Home (431 George St. S). Funeral mass at 1:30 p.m. at The Cathedral of Saint Peter-in-Chains (411 Reid Street), followed by a brief interment at Rosemount Memorial Gardens (2551 Whittington Dr.). All are welcome to toast this remarkable lady at a post-funeral reception at the Knights of Columbus (317 Hunter St. W). Donations in Joan's memory to Hospice Peterborough are welcomed.
