Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joan Mary O'Heron (nee Hickey), on October 20, 2022, at the age of 96. Joan is predeceased by her devoted husband of 51 years, Arnold, and her three brothers George (Pearl), Joe (Veronica) and Paul (Frances). She is survived by her three loving children Paul and his wife Lorri, Barbara Ashdown and Maureen and her husband Roy Enman; eight adoring grandchildren Sarah O'Heron (Murray MacFarlane), Colleen (Brandon DeFazio), and Alex O'Heron; Katie Traynor (Shawn Kelly) and Michelle (Brandon Ephgrave); Scott, Patrick and Mark Enman; and five cherished great-grandchildren Carter Kelly, Owen and Dylan Ephgrave and Quinn and Llewyn DeFazio. Joan began her working career at Quaker Oats in Peterborough, then moved to Bell Canada where she worked as a Service Representative. She left the business world after marrying Arnold and devoted the rest of her life to supporting her husband, raising her family, serving in the community, and doing an abundance of charitable work. Joan will be remembered for her love of family and friends, the joy she brought to all those she welcomed and entertained in her lovely home, a grand sense of humour, gifted storytelling, prolific letter writing, and a personal motto of "peace, love and sharing". A special thank you to the dedicated staff at St. Joseph's at Fleming Long-Term Care Home who provided expert support for Joan while she was in their care.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in ST. ALPHONSUS LIGUORI CHURCH, 1066 Western Avenue, Peterborough on Thursday, November 3 at 11 a.m. A reception at Duffus Funeral Home, 431 George Street, Peterborough will follow the Mass. Interment: St. Martin of Tours Cemetery, Ennismore. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Kidney Foundation of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
