O'LEARY, Michael J. "Mike" (1916 -2008)

Michael J. "Mike" O'Leary, son of the late John J. O'Leary and Margaret Quinlan of Douro Township, passed away peacefully at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Monday, July 14, 2008 at the age of 92 years. Born in Douro on May 31, 1916, Mike was predeceased by his sisters Kathleen (McCormick), Amelia (Garvey), Elizabeth (Douglas) and Mary; as well as brothers Joseph, John and Francis. Mike is survived by many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. He will also be remembered fondly by the many friends he made during his active life in Peterborough's business and sports communities. A real estate enthusiast for more than 30 years, Mike was Past-President and Honourary Life Member of the Peterborough Real Estate Board. Outside of the office, Mike could be found living his greatest passion on the 18th hole. He was a member of the Lift Lock Golf and Country Club, and Past President and member of the Peterborough Golf and Country Club. Mike was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for more than six decades, after serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War Two. Mike's heart was always with his community where he gave of his time as Honourary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus and the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. Mike's family would like to express their sincere thanks to his good friend Ken Withers and his wife Marion for all their love and support, especially during Mike's final days. Thanks also to the staff of the Peterborough Regional Health Centre and Rubidge Residence for their care and compassion.

A Memorial Mass for Mike O'Leary will take place at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter-in-Chains on Tuesday August 19, 2008 at 10:30 am. Mike is being laid to rest in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Douro.
