BURKE, Reverend Father Bart

Passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024 in his 96th year. Brother-in-law of Bernard McConville and Bob Glennon. Lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews and their families and several cousins. He was born in Kirkfield, Ontario on August 29, 1928, his parents were Wilfred Burke and Kathleen Condon from Douro, brothers Tom (Jane and Helen), Bill, Gerrard, Jarvis, Charlie, Helen Glennon (Bob), Marie McConville (Bernard) and Bernadette Myers (Doug). He attended high school and continued to to St. Michaels' College Toronto, graduating in 1951. He attended St. Augustine Seminary in Scarborough from 1952 to 1956. He was ordained a priest at St. Peter's Cathedral on May 26, 1956. Father Bart was an assistant at Sacred Heart, Kinmount, Hastings and Douro. He was pastor at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, Honey Harbour from 1960 to 1970 and St. Patrick's Kinmount from 1970 to 1974, St. Peter's Cathedral from 1974 to 1978, and St. Michael's Cobourg from 1978 to 1981. He was pastor in Labrador City in Labrador from 1982 to 1992 and served four Native Reserves in Sandy Lake, Ontario, and in Manitoba at God's Lake Narrows, God's River and Oxford House in the Archdiocese of Keewatin Le Pas from 1992 to 2013. He retired to Winnipeg in October 2013.

Visitation at the CATHEDRAL OF ST. PETER-IN-CHAINS, Peterborough from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2024 (Prayers for the Office of the Dead at 7 p.m. Sunday). Then vistation from 12 noon to 1 p.m. on Monday, July 15, 2024 followed by a Funeral Mass on Monday at 1 p.m. Interment at St. Peter's Cemetery.
