HEFFERNAN, Reverend Father Bernard Francis (Roman Catholic Priest for the Diocese of Peterborough since 1962)
Entered into Eternal rest peacefully at Extendicare Nursing Home in Lakefield on Monday, March 14, 2016 in his 82nd year. Beloved brother of Carmella LeMoire (Laverne), Helen Condon (Vincent), Teresa Westlake (Roger) of Douro, and Anne of Peterborough, sister-in-law Jean Heffernan and brother-in-law Bernard Sullivan of Douro. Dear uncle of many nieces and nephews and their families. Predeceased by his loving parents Francis Heffernan and Kathleen Towns and siblings Sister Isabel, Joseph, Monica (Sullivan), and Gerald. Father Bernard was ordained to the Holy Priesthood at the Cathedral of St. Peter-in-Chains on June 2, 1962. Father Bernard's appointments included St. John the Baptist (Peterborough), St. Joseph's (Bracebridge), St. Michael's (Cobourg), St. Anne's (Peterborough), St. Joseph's (Bowmanville), Holy Family (Britt), St. John's (Kirkfield), Our Lady of Lourdes (Cardiff) and Nursing Home Ministry until his retirement in 2004. He was also Head of the Toronto Archdiocese Mass Media Television and Radio in 1973. Our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Extendicare for their loving and thoughtful care in Father's final days.

Visitation is at the CATHEDRAL OF ST. PETER-IN-CHAINS from 2-9 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2016. (Prayers for the Office of the Dead at 7 p.m. Friday). Funeral Mass in the CATHEDRAL OF ST. PETER-IN-CHAINS on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 10 a.m. His Excellency Most Reverend William McGrattan Bishop of Peterborough officiating, concelebrated by his brother Priests of the Diocese of Peterborough. Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery, Douro. The Heffernan Family would like to invite all to St. Joseph's Parish Hall in Douro for a reception following the interment.
