PERDUE, Reverend Vernon Gregory
Died peacefully at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 in his 88th year and in his 60th year of priesthood. He was the loving brother of Gladys Leahy of Peterborough and dear uncle of several nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his parents William Perdue and Mary O'Leary, sisters Stella Perdue, Phyllis Perdue, Geraldine (Gerry) Perdue and Ethel Tocchet, and brothers Robert, Lloyd, Cecil, Garnet and Oscar Perdue. Father Perdue was ordained a priest at the Cathedral of St. Peter-in-Chains on June 11, 1949 and served as Associate Pastor at Our Lady of Mercy, Port Hope; St. Joseph, Bracebridge; Immaculate Conception, Peterborough; and Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Lindsay and Pastor at Our Lady of Mercy, Honey Harbour; St. Alphonsus, Wooler; St. Paul the Apostle, Lakefield; Sacred Heart of Jesus, Trout Creek; Our Lady of the Assumption, Otonabee; Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Campbellford; and St. John the Baptist, Peterborough. Father Perdue served as Chaplain at Marycrest Seniors' Residence from 1983 until his retirement in 1986.
Visitation will take place at DUFFUS FUNERAL HOME, 431 George Street South from 2-4 p.m. on Friday, January 9 and then continue at the Cathedral of St. Peter-in-Chains from 6-8 p.m. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at the Cathedral on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Interment St. Peter's Cemetery.
