TAITINGER, Shirley Mae (nee JOHNSON)

Shirley passed into the presence of her Lord and Saviour on June 7th, 2022 in her 93 ^rd year, after suffering a tragic fall. She leaves behind her children Renae Bundock, Rick (Melanie) Taitinger, and Richelle (Anthony) Ierulli. Loving Nanny to grandchildren Kristen (Matthew) O'Coin, Tori and Nick Taitinger, Megan and Avery Ierulli, and Gigi to great grandchildren Lincoln, Ember and Ivy O'Coin. Shirley is predeceased by her mother Leah, and brothers James, Robert, Wallace and Eldon, as well as her beloved husband Robert (Bob) Taitinger who passed away on May 12 ^th , 2022.

Shirley was born on April 5th, 1930 in Pembroke, Ontario. She and her four brothers were raised by their loving mother, Leah Johnson. In her younger years, she enjoyed fishing, tap dancing and playing piano. In 1951, she met the handsome Bob Taitinger, at Lakeshore Pentecostal Camp, and they were married on June 5 ^th , 1954. She lived in Edmonton, Alberta from 1954 to 1969 where her husband pastored Central Pentecostal Tabernacle.

In 1969, the family moved to Toronto when Bob was elected as General Superintendent of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. As the first lady of the PAOC, Shirley faithfully ministered alongside Bob, raising their children and opening their home to many guests. In 1982, when Shirley and Bob moved to Peterborough, she started the College Wives Program at Eastern Pentecostal Bible College, while her husband served as President. She also helped launch the Good Neighbours Care Centre in 1987 where she was founding Director. From 1997 to 1999, she was the National Women's Ministries Director for the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. Up until her final days, Shirley was a long-standing Board member of Northview Day School and a volunteer at the Care Centre and at Calvary Church.

In their retirement years, Shirley and Bob spent their winters in Peterborough and summers at Cobourg's Lakeshore Pentecostal Camp, her favourite place on earth.

Shirley had a remarkable zest for life and loved her family with every fibre of her being. She was happiest when they were all gathered together.  Her steadfast faith in God reflected in everything she did, through her kindness, generous spirit and positivity.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 21 ^st from 5-8 p.m. at Calvary Church, 1421 Lansdowne Street West, Peterborough. Friends are welcome to share in the Celebration of Life on Wednesday, June 22 ^nd , 2 p.m. at Calvary Church.
