Obituary

GRAVELLE, Wilfrid Leonard – It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Wilfrid at Peterborough Regional Health Centre in his 78th year on 24 December 2010. Wilf was the loving husband of Kay (Young) for over 53 years and was the proud father of Chris (Karen) of Marmora, Christine (Terry Fitzgerald) of Douro, Theresea (Brad Dale) of Whitby, Michael (Jessica Robson) of Burlington, Michelle (Sandy Rosen) of Ottawa, Jeannine (Fred Stillman) of Otonabee, Greg (Angie) of Almonte. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Also survived by 4 sisters Flo Viita (Sault Ste. Marie), Gilberte (Ted Robertson) of Gatineau, Theresa Maloney of (Sudbury), and Louise Alexander (Sudbury). Also survived by numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by his parents Wilfrid Sr. and Bertha of Sault Ste Marie, 5 brothers, 1 sister and 1 granddaughter Sarah Fitzgerald. Wilf moved into Peterborough area in 1956 hoping to eventually purchase a farm which he realized in 1965. However, his trade of meat cutting soon had him providing services for the local farmers in addition to farming. Wilf opened his government abbatoir in 1981 and was respected for his skill, fairness and sense of humour. He recently advised that his proudest moment was winning Grand Champion for his smoked hams 3 years in a row at the provincial level with the Ontario Independant Meat Packers Association. Three sons and 2 grandsons have followed in the trade in various capacities.

Visitation will be held at the DUFFUS FUNERAL HOME on George Street from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, 28 December 2010. (Parish Prayers 3:45 p.m. Tuesday). Funeral Mass at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CHURCH, 1830 Keene Road, on 29 December 2010 at 11 a.m. Burial to follow in Ennismore at St. Martin's Parish immediately following the funeral. In memory of Wilf, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
